The laptop supply situation has improved again, so I'm going to replace my ancient 2011 laptop. It has served me well on my nomadic experience, but the battery's going and it keeps switching off unexpectedly.

I wanted a new one with a 17-inch screen, but the word on the street is that 17-inch laptops are too massive to transport easily. So I'm getting a 15-inch one instead. That's the same size as my existing one, but the resolution is 1920*1080 compared to my existing 1366*768

That's nearly twice as good.

Also, the 17-inch ones are all about £1000, whereas this 15-inch one is only £600.

So if the 15-inch one turns out to be too small, I've wasted less money than if I got the 17-inch one and it turned out to be uncarryable.

I have ordered the laptop.

Supposedly it's coming tomorrow.

My laptop now only works directly off the mains lead - the battery lasts literally about 30 seconds before going into hibernation mode!

Having an SSD instead of a mechanical hard disc like my old laptop did, it is eerily silent when operating. I keep thinking it's crashed.

I've been working on it all morning.

I have installed VNC on it so I can work remotely, on my parents' computer, if someone comes and makes a noise in the room where I usually set up the laptop.
