Pen top or a cigarette filter were my go-to solutions.

I'm listening to The Work's debut LP Slow Crimes on vinyl burnt mpeg though.
Pick the bones out of that one.

Re: The Cassette thread, or should that be tape? lolz.
Found a mix tape just after Christmas, I made it circa 1999. Tried to play it but there was a weird dried gloop which had gotten onto the spools, it wouldn't turn over.
Am going to try fix it this week. I'm pretty sure I know what's on it, I can't bare to think music from Fatboy Slim, Moby and Air have been lost forever.

All those stickers, and each one a different colour to match the artwork.

I suggest we call it the last mix tape, there’s nothing left to compile now. How do you do it?

I put a record on my record player, in this case The Smoke by Lolina. I press record on the cassette player. Song ends, stop tape, change record, press record.
Repeat until the tape is full.
Actually it's more of a Smerz on one side, Lolina/Inga Copeland/Hype Willams on the other rather than a true mixtape, but it's close enough as half of them are 45rpms meaning I have to keep getting up from my bathchair to change sides

I was actually quoting Gwegowy but I appreciate the explanation

Do we need a 8 Track Cartridge thread? Or will this one do?

It’s not a cassette - so what is it?

Well I wish this had been a thing before my lovely old car was crashed into and written off. It only had a tape deck so I had quite a few classics.
As for when the ribbon thing came out, I used to place the nail of my index finger through the wheel to keep it steady, and spin the tape with my other hand.
My current car is too old to even have a tape deck. It has the original 1967 radio in place, with chrome and black detailing to match the rest of the car.
