Have you learned any new words recently?

I’ve just learned we are operating an ‘evacuteria’ at a Sudanese airport.

Well, it's not new to me, but I'd urge everyone to to look up the word "granfalloon".

Very apt for this day and age.

I’ve looked it up. I’ll apply it liberally from now on.

The newest word I've learnt is 'declinature'. That's the act of declining someone something (like a bank account or a card transaction).

I've been using 'declination' in that context, but apparently 'declinature' is the correct legal term.

malapropism
/ˈmaləprəpɪz(ə)m/
noun
the mistaken use of a word in place of a similar-sounding one, often with an amusing effect (e.g. ‘dance a flamingo ’ instead of flamenco ).

I learnt that at school. It's named after Mrs Malaprop, a character in some play, who keeps using malapropisms.

Every soap has a Mrs Malaprop. Mrs Mangel, Hilda Ogden and her ‘muriel’, Dot Cotton - or maybe Ethel was more so. But they pretty much all rely on it as a comedic device.

Couldn’t find a thread, can’t make one.

I have never been able to pronounce tribunal properly.

In my head it’s tribuneral, and that’s what I think it should be.

I find it so tricky I never use the word at all. I always notice its use by others.
