Listening to Just a Minute for the first time in ages.

That came on after I'd listened to the 12 o'clock news in the car. I immediately turned it off.

All of todays exciting news has meant I have tuned into Simon 'hold the' Mayo's show on Olden Classics Radio or whatever it's called, and it's identical to his old Radio 2 show. Same features bants and songs and everything.
Wonder when Jo Whiley will be re-merged into him?

The straw/holes question is interesting, I think it turns on the ambiguity of 'hole', which can mean two things:
A. A void in an otherwise solid object, like a gash, trench, pit or tunnel. B. The point(s) at which such a void opens at the surface.
So a straw has 1 hole in sense A, and 2 holes in sense B.
Now, that's got me thinking about the bubbles in an Aero, or the rumoured entranceless Marabar caves in A Passage To India. Until the Aero or the mountain is snapped in half, such bubbles constitute 1 hole in sense A, but no holes in sense B.

I think you're over thinking it.
The word hollow comes from hole doesn't it?
