Bucking the trend for budding superstars changing their dowdy, inelegant and occasionally silly real names to something spectacliar like Reginald Dwight to Elton John, Natalie Hershlag to Natalie Portman, Maurice Micklewhite to Michael Caine, Betty Joan Perske to Lauren Bacall etc etc...

Apparently Rita Hayworth was born Margarita Carmen Cansino.

Probably a sign of the (even more) racist times in the US at that time, but by today's standards it's pretty much perfect.

Ironically, the phone you'll use to phone that number will contain a battery.

Although you might have already eaten it.

The microwave transmitter in domestic microwave ovens is a form of vacuum toob, so even after the demise on CRT TVs the average home still has a form of ye olde valve on the house. yo

I sawed open one those magnetrons once from an old microwave. Wasn't very exciting to be honest, far less than what you expect from something called a magnetron anyway.

No radiation, although I later found out the ceramic endcaps are made out of a beryllium based material which is really, really bad for you if break it up and inhale any. I cut through the copper part thankfully.

The album version of Queen's "I Want to Break Free", on The Works, is pretty much the same as the single version other than it doesn't have the recognisable synth intro or ultra-long synth solo bit in the middle.

Sia Furler, of "Sia" fame, sang uncredited vocals on Zero 7's 2001 single "Destiny", the beginning of which has been used many a time on adverts and trailers.

Thinking about it, I may actually have learnt that fact some years ago, but it would have been before Sia became well known. I remember hearing that song on Radio 1 quite a lot at the time yet never knew who it was by.
