Motion Detector Pro turns your mobile into a security camera. It bursts into life when the phone's camera spots movement and takes photos of whatever it is that's moving. It can also give off a panic-stricken noise - - when it detects motion.

CamDroid turns your phone into a webcam either via USB cable, wi-fi or bluetooth, meaning you can nosey at what's going on outside use it as a real-time security camera.

I have now tried the app known only as, "Motion Detector."  It seems to take better pics than Motion Detector Pro.

However, you have to make certain to hold the phone vertically when adjusting the settings, as there isn't enough room for all the controls when it's held vertically and it's very confusing trying to make sense of it. Vertically, it's fine.

It also stores the pics in your photo gallery, meaning you can mass delete them, instead of having to delete them one at a time, which you have to do on Motion Detector Pro.

Totally failed to detect me leaving the house this morning. Totally failed to detect me returning home. Totally failed to detect me throwing rubbish in the wheelie bin directly outside the window. It only seems to be able to detect movement inside the kitchen.

Motion Detector Pro, on the other hand, takes rubbish, tiny pictures but does, at least, manage to detect comings and goings on the front path.

I have now discovered IP Webcam which does the same but has far more controls available to it, can save video footage, can zoom in, has a motion detector and you can set a password for greater security.

I've got it going now.

There's a black and white cat stood on my bin, looking in through the window.

The cat has now gone. Something startled it, from the street, and it has departed.

I think it's proving a bit too demanding for my laptop. It's having a tendency to freeze.
