Utopian or Dystopian?
P.M. Dawn - Of the Heart, of the Soul and of the Cross: The Utopian Experience (1991)
All the critics seem to agree that there's only ever been one good Rap album and that this is it. It has a title that no one could possibly remember but it still went gold on all three sides of the Atlantic.

It's no 'The Covenant, The Sword And The Arm Of The Lord'.
Actually that does look a bit anaemic compared to that PM Dawn essay.

But it's the only good Rap album ever made.

It'll be Arrested Development next.

I have a weird relationship with this album. On first listen I disliked it and was going to charity shop it straight away, but on second listen found it acceptable and picked out a handful of highlights. Still, it got relegated to my box of mediocre CDs rather than being put with my best of the best.
I like some of the production and the main bloke's singing but there's a bit too much rapping on it - I seem to remember some of the tracks are just rapping.

Now there IS an album I sent to the charity shop straight away. A bit too earthy and political for my liking. And neither of the two main singles on it - which I really like - were the actual single versions.
