Re: What's happening in your life? Part 2
I thought I was going to go crazy.
Even if I just got up and tried to do some work or just trawl the internet it would've been impossible to think straight.
I even started hypothesising walking out of my flat, clambering over the fence that separates the two parts of the estate and sleeping in the scrubby bit of land backing onto the posh people's gardens.
Where the foxes go to backside torpedo.
I even wondered whether I could ask my neighbours on the other side whether I could crash out in their spare room.

Re: What's happening in your life? Part 2
Later on that evening when it'd stopped I called my Mum to say that I might need to stay at her's (in my old bedroom) for a few days until it'd stopped, but she immediately starting nagging me because that room is jammed full of crap that I said I'd have after my Grandpa died (a home-made 1960s minibar and blonde wood record player sideboard thing for example) and stuff I still haven't moved to my new flat (about a thousand books etc ) since I moved three years ago.
She may have a strong case for nagging me, but, after 48 hours of little-or-no sleep, I wasn't in the mood to hear it.
I'd rather sleep in a fox crap thicket.

Re: What's happening in your life? Part 2
Yesterday evening I was writing my diary when the hotel fire alarm went off!
I had to hurriedly make myself presentable and go and stand in the car park with the other guests till the fire brigade came and turned it off.
I'd always assumed that in such a situation we'd be marshalled into the Brewers Fayre and given blankets and free cups of tea, but that did not happen.

Now I'm scared it'll go off again

My son told me last night that he doesn't like his bedroom ceiling anymore, and wants to change it.
It took me ages to trace out a celestial pattern after painting it midnight blue, and then hand glue fake diamonds across it like stars. I've always considered it my finest ever DIY project.
I should've done it to my own bedroom ceiling instead.

Can't you - NJ - just get in her bed if the spare room is off limits?

It's not an owl.

Well if you can't sleep in your own bed, and her spare one is out of bounds, you haven't got much choice about getting in with her.
There may come a time when a boy is too old to sleep with mummy - or at least to freely admit it to his friends - but you're a long way past the age of the full circle process where it becomes absolutely fine again, if the only available bed already contains her.

Is she particularly unhygienic or something?

It's a shame this didn't happen a couple of weeks ago because you could've gone and slept in Southwark Park, and nobody would've thought anything of it.

I meant to say earlier, I absolutely loathe PVC front doors. I'd rather be called Beatrice than have a PVC front door. Can't you call the council and put it to them that front doors are meant to make you feel special, like the world is worth stepping out into, and that a home is inviting to return to.
