Going Back or going slack?
Re: Neil Young - Comes a Time (1978)
Nicolette Larson demonstrating a brilliant turn of stylistic skill.

A completely unassuming, gentle coda to the album.

Did we do this album on the old forum?

Re: Neil Young - Comes a Time (1978)
It is over.
It was a pleasant album but it needed more welly, to keep it interesting.
Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it.![Excited](/users/3715/63/33/29/smiles/4075307247.gif)

I shall give it 4 stars.
Really, it's a 3.6 album but we don't have a 3.6 option.

Re: Neil Young - Comes a Time (1978)
Well, I'm very fond of that album.
He recorded it in the middle of a lengthy period of turmoil and punk-esque musical experimentation, so it's laid-back country-rock stylings nonplussed a lot of fans and critics.
It does slip into a slightly lazy reverie at points, but the interplay of Young and Larson's vocals is really special.
I also love the relaxed, clean-sounding production and restrained string arrangements.
As an album it's a very polished and cohesive work - a small miracle; a modest gem.
