It doesn't rain but it pours.

Now, on the right side of my index finger, I seem to have a splinter.

That, or some kind of malicious foreign object has worked it way under my skin and now I'm in vague pain.


Especially since I keep squeezing it really hard with a pair of needle-nose pliers hoping to see a single, minuscule sh*ft of purest pine emerging from my skin with the elegant majesty of something out of a film breaking through the ice in the Antarctic.

I just did it and something actually did!

I got a splinter a few weeks ago, and it was really sore for a couple of days, and then I forgot about it until my skin disdainfully pushed it to the surface again, where it dropped off. (The splinter, not my skin)

Just that splintery feeling whenever it decides to stab my soul in that uniquely insignificant yet profound not-exactly-a-pain sensation.

Like, I want to carve my flesh asunder to prove or disprove whether I actually have something in me or whether it's a despicable phantasy of auto-torment.

Do you have a magnifying glass, in case of such situnarios?

I have a massive, chipped lens what I use in these circumstances.

I think I found it in the street.

Like everything I've ever loved.

Even the splinter seems to have eluded me.

I got a rose thorn in me while mowing my parents' lawn on Saturday. I extracted it with my eyebrow tweezers after sterilising them on the cooker.

Yesterday the area was red and inflamed, but it looks and feels OK today.

I imagine that an almost identical incident is what inspired Poison to write that song.

I've had a thorn in my left thumb for weeks. I feel it.I can't even see it but have accepted that, that's where it lives now.
