Well, yes, but here, like with Zappa, it's cos it's women singing that brings a kind of hysterical, high camp quality to proceedings.
Doo-Wop was a predominantly male vocal group thing, wasn't it?
True but didn't they have castrato falsetto backing vocals? They did, but Zappa was always using women to do that stuff. Not on Cruising with Ruben and the Jets, but deffo once the '80s (Sheikh Yerbouti?) began to loom.
