I've known several Garys over the years and I've never heard any of them being called Gal - Gaz yes, quite often. The only time I've ever heard Gal was on EastEnders. Perhaps it's not a thing outside of London.

By the way, I think the "Uncle Gary" that was trending is Kate Middleton's uncle, who it appears is on Celebrity Big Brother.

The name rings a bell. Was he some sort of cheeky chappy type?

I’d need a photo.
Does nowhere else in the country shorten Gary to rhyme with Hal, Mal, and Sal then?

Garry (with two r's) Hobbs, a long time boyfriend of one of the Slaters.

I remember his friend Minty calling him Gal. Or what sounded more like "Gow" to rhyme with "how", to my Midlands ears at least.

Wispa is trending on Twitter.
There doesn't seem to be any reason for it.

I always preferred mint Aero.
In my book, it was them not creating a mint Wispa that caused its downfall.

Wispa Gold (filled with caramel) is my favourite ever chocolate bar. Its relative rarity makes it all the more delicious when I'm able to source one.

Re: It's trending on Twitter - Part 2.
I like the normal Wispa.
As a preschooler, I used to get one as a treat for going round all the greengrocers with my gran. It was a chocolate bar she approved of for children - sweet but not filled with goo, not dense, no hard edges to damage teeth. I do mean round all the greengrocers - every vegetable or piece of fruit had to be sampled if possible, examined for firmness, freshness, scent, presentability (is it bowl worthy, and if so which bowl in which room, or is it fit for soup only), likelihood of lasting, suitability for immediate consumption, etc. A magnifying glass was involved. Any imperfection at all, or a sign that a deviation in menu planning might result from over or under ripeness, and we were off to alternative premises to do it all again. Politely though, always very politely. Never blame the staff.
At the end, I’d usually get a Wispa.
And I now shop for fruit and vegetables in almost as strict fashion. No online grocery shopping, complete with less than top produce slipped in by some tired worker on minimum wage for me.
I can spot the difference between a developing bruise, good organic dirt, or a merely questionable shadow at forty paces. Heaven help them if there’s a hint of a nail mark in an apple skin. All thanks to Wispa, my reward for dedication to high quality.

I prefer the plain Wispa too. I think the caramel one is a step too far, like those Fox's Chocolate Nasties biscuits.
