Re: Songs that sort of sound like other songs thread.
I have just realised that the riff from Funkytown is basically the riff from Cream's Sunshine of Your Love, fiddled about with.

Someone's done a mashup of them.

I'm not convinced that's a seamless fit.

Phil Collins with an album track that at first has a similar rhythm to TLC's Waterfalls, then an instrumental part which sounds a bit like Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer, then Collins actually tries to sing like Peter Gabriel himself!

ELO basically rip-off Eleanor Rigby on their first album.
But, this time, it's Roy Wood doing the filching, not Jeff Lynne.

It's just occured to me that R.E.M.'s Crush With Eyeliner
sounds like the 7" of Hawkwinds' Quark Strangeness and Charm played at 33.3r
Only not as good. Natch.

Following on from another nearby thread:
I've always thought that the horn break (and general melodic canter and rhythm) in Macca's SLSs bears a strong resemblance to Al Green's Sha La La (Make Me Happy)...
Green's also precedes Macca's by 2 years.

Al Green would be very appreciative if a masterfully crafted pop masterpiece like Silly Love Songs was inspired by him.

TLC got Macca back for Al with Waterfalls.

The verse of that Mick Karn record sounds like something else as well.

Robinson and Danny Kustow believe "Bully for You" inspired " Another Brick in the Wall Part 2" by Pink Floyd, with whom the band shared a manager and label*. "There's no question 'We don't need no aggravation' was in the air around Roger Waters," said the former. "The truth of it is that I had a really good idea for a chorus and we didn't make the most of it. If 'Bully for You' had started with, 'We don't need no aggravation,' how much better would it have been? Roger's skills as a writer were far more developed than my own. He put a great idea to better use, so fair play to him."
What they didn't mention was the rest of the song sounded like a really inept attempt at the Kinks All Day and All of the Night.
*EMI. They were on the same label, EMI. I'm sure Pink Floyd listened to every one of the 20 odd albums that EMI were bringing out each week at the time.
