I shall give it 2 stars, for its total lack of presence.

I think that, all in all, that was another triumphant thread.

I can see what you mean, but I'd say that the major criticism isn't presence but application.
He only did 3 proper albums and they're all a hodge-podge of sublime laid-back funk-soul or lazy blues jams.
It's completely true that the Stones, Bowie etc wanted him, but he didn't really care.
I guess he was spoilt.
It comes over in the music I guess.
Loads of talent and provenance, but no hunger, drive or ambition.

Onto Spangles City.
Getting the odd wiff of Jamiroquai, and that's not a good thing.

There's some loverly bits of arrangement on this.

That decending instrumention is loverly. I don't know how much that has to do with the song as such.
I quite like his lifeless vocals, and the intermittant use of them.
Can't we do the Snatch And The Poontangs album?

I mean it's soul, and I'm not that much of a soul kinda guy. But for laid back jazzy sort of thing it's alright.

XL-30 was a bit of an odd thing. I quite liked it.

Pling! Didn't go anywhere. But I spent half the 90s listening to To Rocco Rot songs that didn't. And sound a bit like that one.
