Re: Painting and decorating
I expect that will brighten the room up nicely.

Thank god. Navy airing cupboard doors sound like something Carol Smillie might’ve overseen back in the day. The surrounding walls weren’t orange or yellow were they?

The surrounding walls are white. The door itself is Prussian Red. Only the frame was navy blue.

Prussian Red?
Is that a colour?
Serious question BTW.
I know of Prussian Blue (it's one of my favourite colours in fact and one of the must-haves on any painter's palette), but Prussian Red?

That's a Prussian helmet that's red.

Not to take the pith or anything, but I think you should keep the pickelhaube helmets even after the redo. They’d be perfect for accessorizing the statues either side of the front door. A touch of class, really unique.

Do you mean a pith helmet in reddo?

Yes, lovely. Just the thing to set off a sleeping lion on top of the gatepost.

Re: Painting and decorating
I had a couple of old items that, weeks ago, I said to a friend I’d drop off when I was back - if she didn’t want them, and her daughter didn’t want them for her place, she could take them to a charity shop. Fine. Perfectly serviceable, they just no longer go as individual items with how my decor has evolved. She seemed keen to see them.
This morning, too early to knock, I knew I’d be driving past so I took them, left them on her doorstep, tucked away out of the sight of the street. This afternoon I’ve discovered she’s announced via social media that she’s thinking of moving to the countryside because - last straw - someone’s now dumped a load of junk on her doorstep.

Re: Painting and decorating
It's like an entry from a diary in a humorous novel.

I don’t find it humorous. A kind deed has been spurned and my taste has been mocked. I’ve had those things in my own flat for ages, and considered them perfectly decent.

I didn't mean to dismiss your hurt feelings. It was just the neatness of the story that made me think of the comparison.

I’ve actually told her now, and she found it hilarious, and thinks the items are fine, more than suitable for her daughter’s student flat. She just said she’d assumed the worst when she saw them because she’s always finding things - even people - basically flytipped outside, or vandalism. To be fair, I should’ve left a note.

Re: Painting and decorating
Painting a new sideboard. At the ‘wish I hadn’t started this’ stage.
Actually I assembled it myself. I put the ends on the wrong way round, couldn’t see what I’d done but could see they were the wrong way round. Instead of stepping back, looking properly, and just swapping them round, I hired a drill and started remaking the holes in one side before I realised the much simpler solution staring me in the face. I think it’s partly because I had the instruction guide upside down - the diagram was the wrong way round as I tried to vaguely work from it, from its place on the coffee table.
Anyway, it looks fine, unless you look at the side that now has drill holes where there was no need for them to be. Or it will look fine, touchwood, once it’s fully painted.
