| The correct thread for posting drinking-related updates. I myself have got some Tesco Finest Cotes de Gascogne on the go, and if anything it's nastier than their standard CdG. It could be P*ss de Paul Gascoigne for all I know. |

| Seriously, it's like vodka and lemon juice, except not so nice.
This wine is like vodka and lemon juice, I mean. Not P de PG. Though if that tasted like vodka too it wouldn't be all that surprising. |

It's very 'old lady's knicker drawer' perfume-y that Gazza's Old Coat stuff. Nasty. But cheap. My advice is always - if on a budget, get Pino Palladino Pinot Grigio. Always bland, always inoffensive, always 12% vol. _________________ OK, I'm an old shoe

You've struck a chord there, because alc by vol is almost** always my primary consideration when choosing wine. In a typical weekend* I'll start on Friday with 10.5%, then go up one 0.5% step each day. *This wasn't a typical weekend because of my WFF yesterday. This morning in Tescos I was looking for an 11.5% wine, and rejected the bland but reliable Vina Sol because it was £7.50 when the CdG was only £5. I'll know better next time. **The exception is when I want to treat myself to champagne (always 12% or 12.5%) or Chablis (always 12.5%). |

| I didn't drink much last night. But it was just the right amount if white rum to make me feel turgid this morning. It's Sunday though, so there's going to be a cooked breakfast to help me kickstart. If only I had a glass of water with me. But too tired to get up. |

I went in Aldi once and there was 1 checkout open with 5 people with full trolleys queuing. And I went in a Lidl once with my friend and they were really rude (the Lidlians, not my friend). I've boycotted both chains ever since. |

| You shouldn't let that put you off. I reckon that was earlier, before they cleaned up the stores' layouts, modernised and upped the general game. I urge you to go back. There is still usually a bit more queuing to do, but the produce - and the wines - are better and cheaper. Aldi are very good and have, booze-wise, a smaller more consistent line of wines and some 'guests'*, Lidl for booze are terrific - a really large selection of more-or-less permanent wines and then loads of smaller batches of 'while stocks last' wines. They'll have loads of Old and New World wines, Hungarian Tokays, Austrian Gruner Veltliners, Moroccan syrahs, English sparkling wines and things like Barolo or Chateauneuf du Papes for much less than they cost at Tescbury's and Waitrissons. *e.g. a really fine French Chardonnay for £4.79, a nice crisp Gruner Veltliner for £4.99, a safe old Pinot-G for £4.19, a brilliant Californian Zinfandel/Shiraz, and - at the mo' - a really lovely sparkling Pinot-G for £5.99 (it's in a squat bottle, like a posh champagne). Be brave, young lady - go back! _________________ OK, I'm an old shoe

I reckon that was earlier, before they cleaned up the stores' layouts, modernised and upped the general game. Well, the Aldi incident was the day the final Harry Potter book came out, in 2007. And the Lidl one would have been circa 2013. |

| I'm drinking delicious Chablis in honour of my holidays.
It doesn't seem to be working though. Maybe it's just that 'getting used to being on holiday' feeling. _________________ ' "Haven't got houses." Where do they live then?'

| A funfair is no place to be drunk. And I don't like red wine anyway. _________________ ' "Haven't got houses." Where do they live then?'

| I've just bought a bottle of Meursault Sadly, it's not all for me, it's my contribution to the Fanfamily Three Christmas dinner. I might get another one for Christmas Eve, to have all to myself, actually. |

| I've had to take some paracetamol+codeine.
Hopefully the codeine will take effect any minute now. _________________ ' "Haven't got houses." Where do they live then?'
