Re: Shabba Ranks - Rough & Ready Volume 1 (1992)
Actually, I realise now that this might not've been a good idea for a commentary after all.
I'd sort-of forgotten (for about 10 minutes) that Ragga/Dancehall acts of this era had some 'cultural issues' they were slavishly espousing via their songs.
As the 'only gay on the Forum' what does La Butterpops think?

To be fair half of us won't know what he's talking about anyway.
I've been toying with the idea of doing a Ninjaman or Mad Cobra album for years, this is a much better suggestion.

I have a faint memory of us doing an Eek-A-Mouse album.
In any and all events Eek-A-Mouse is the best name for a band or artiste ever ever EVA!!

Well, thanks for outing me on an international internet forum.
I'm not someone who pays much attention to lyrics at the best of times. But "gentle" homophobic stuff from the 90s and earlier (Money for Nothing etc.) doesn't offend me - different times and all that; artistic in its own dated way. Stronger stuff about death and murder and I might just have a problem.
That said, other than Mr. Loverman and the song he did with Maxi Priest, Shabba Ranks has always repulsed me - he's one of the ugliest men in pop music. I'd probably be more offended by the overall ragga sound than the actual lyrics.

Put this in the oubliette please.
I don't want to listen to it.
