Re: The gardening thread
Today, I have massacred three lawns and a privet.
Tomorrow, weeds get destroyed.

Thank god. I’m pleased to know a corner of Sheffield is cared for. May the example you’ve set travel far.

Re: The gardening thread
There are yellow flowers in my garden, of a kind that haven't been in my garden before. I wonder if they're from those seeds I flung randomly around, a few months ago?

That’s exciting. I wonder if there are more floral surprises being prepared.

This thread's turned into a Led Zeppelin biography.

Re: The gardening thread
I have just done all three lawns with the manual mower. As the grass wasn't very long, it was very quick and easy.

In other news, my strimmer began to emit smoke and then stopped working.

Has anyone had any success with a glass cloche?

Re: The gardening thread
I need something to cover a delicate plant that shouldn’t really be out in Britain. I tried a special blanket a couple of years ago but it froze along with the plant. This is a replacement plant. However, a glass cloche presumably wouldn’t heat the ground itself? I don’t really know how they work. I could drag it inside but there’s mud in the pot and I have white carpets so that’s my last choice.

Is oleander really poisonous, and does it grow well/at all in the UK? Anyone have any experience?

Re: The gardening thread
I've just assisted in hammering a new washing line socket into the ground in my parents' back garden.
I did not forget to say 'When I nod my head, you hit it.'
It is poisonous, but apparently it's so bitter that it's hard to ingest enough to get poisoned.
And it doesn't like frost, so should be in a container so you can bring it inside in the winter.

Early this evening, I mowed my lawn, for the first time this year.

The front and side lawns were done with the hand mower.
The back garden was done with the flymo.
