How many people do you know these days who are called old fashioned names like Dorothy? It seems as though old names are back - just today I was hearing about a 21 year old Scandinavian pop star called... Agnes. And Jackie Brambles' 3 year old son is called.... Stanley.
In this day and age of Britneys, Chardonnays and Keeeighleeighys, are you all for calling babies names like Edna or Muriel, Harold or Aubrey, or do you know anyone with ye olde names that make you smile with thoughts of yesteryear?
This woman is called Hilary.

When she started modelling, her agency made her model under the name, "Hilary St Claire".

I do know a Mabel. She's from Zimbabwe and has fantastic style and a smile for everyone.
I also have a friend called Dorothy who lives down by the coast in Sussex. She's 93. We go for picnics and smoke in the sun.
My cousin called her daughters Rose and Rita. I still haven't been thanked for sending a welcome to the world card and gift for Rose, so Rita got naff all from me.

I don't find Maurice to be old fashioned or particularly unusual.

Oh, I'm not sure. If they are in their late 30's I might well have done. I'm still in touch with one of them but he's never said anything about a band...
Cedric is now a successful television producer in France, and five individual women have told me he has almost obscenely large t*st*cl*s.
Could this indeed be him/them? Oh, I see now your reply is a reply to my reply to the picture posted by Nightjar. No, they weren't black.
In fact, Trevor was very much a white South African, and therefore not very popular. He spent much time ar*e first in bins and being tortured in science experiments.

I know Beatrices.
A fair old few.
It's not an uncommon name these days.
Amongst us metropolitan elite types that is.
My best friend - and ex's - sister is called Beatrice.
Many of her friends are so posh and Euro-trashy that they often pronounce her name Beartrice.
Ergo, I now call her "The Bear".

I can't stand that name. I especially hate it when it's pronounced BuhTruss, as it so often is by holders of the name and their associates.

On the Britneys and Chardonnays mentioned in the opening post, I was once on a bus when I became aware that twin boys a few seats down were called Dolce and Gabbana.
We are having a conversation in my household about whether my son should use one of his middle names. His father insisted he be named after a musician, complete with unorthodox spelling. He's come to hate it, and I'm not that keen myself.
I'm now thankful that I was overruled on my choice for one his his two middle names - Apollo, after my favourite Greek god. I wanted to call him Dominic after my first lover. Dominic Apollo followed by my own exotic Greek married surname. I didn't get any of those.
My friend is going to call her son Arthur when he arrives. I keep calling her bump 'Arthur Fowler and his allotment' in full, to put her off, but she rarely watched EastEnders so I don't think she quite gets the horror of it. I think that's a very ugly name.

Interestingly, while I was power walking home tonight I came rapidly up behind a father and his erratic post-toddler twins. 'Leo, wait; Layla, get out of the lady's way,' dad instructed. I smiled graciously and power walked on past, feeling a bit sorry for Layla, saddled with her Eric Clapton car advert name while her brother draws on heroic lion power.
Then I started trying to remember if Cersei's line 'I could never understand why they treated us differently' came from fanfic or series 6.

My very lovely cousin Leilah is called Leilah.
Named for the song Layla, but clearly not spelt that way.
Careful how you proceed re: 'tres exotique' mythological names favoured by arch hippy-hipsters BTW.
PS - Leilah's older sister - who I grew up with as we were born only months apart - is called Enya.
Enya Xanthi Borkwell.
