It's very adept this, in a very mannered and arch way (that's been done many times - but perhaps not quite as well as this - before), but it's more than a wee bit soulless.

Ultimately it's just a hollow exercise in pastiche.

I think that he's realised very early on that he's technically talented and likes broadly appealing music but is also short, fat, bald and not all that good-looking and has, being fairly intelligent, created a persona akin to a kind of Cerrone figure to shelter behind.
