The Christmas booze thread
Just got back from the shops.
1) 1 bottle of fancy El Rayo tequila (40% abv) - £29
2) 1 bottle of Cointreau (40% abv) - £15
3) 4 bottles of Californian Chardonnay (14.5% abv) - £8.00 per unit
4) 3 bottles of Californian Zinfandel (13.5% abv) - £5.99 per unit
Total: £93.97 (?)
+15 limes.
My Ex-wife will be on margarita duty on Crimbo day.
PS - I will probably be nipping to Sainsbur' tomorrow some time to needlessly buy more booze.

Re: The Christmas booze thread
I got hardly any booze in this year, I had enough from last Xmas.

Re: The Christmas booze thread
I've got ten cans of Heineken.
I had a choice between that and Strongbow.
But an assistant had parked a large trolley laden with goods in front of the Strongbow cans and, so, I couldn't get to it.
Fate had, therefore, made the choice for me.

I just opened the bottle of Waitrose own brand brandy.

That's all I've got apart from a couple of cans of John Smiths in the fridge, I suppose I'd better take a trip to Lidl/Sainsburys to get some more drink and fags.

Re: The Christmas booze thread
I've got 3½ litres of vodka and lots of sparkling water.
One of the vodka bottles is one of those big 1½ litre tanks of Sainsburys own brand.
The best thing about vodka is that the cheap stuff tastes just the same as the expensive stuff.
Ooh, we've also got some of the fino sherry that I like. And Sancerre for Christmas Day and Muscadet for Boxing Det.

Whilst this should be true in theory (vodka just being a watered down grain spirit of some sort), I find this to be completely untrue.
It's not necessary to buy those stupidly expensive vodkas, but it's definitely worth getting in something decent and authentically East European (Polish preferably, now that Stoli's out).
I'd recommend Wyberowa.
Finlandia's good as well.
That Welsh stuff's good as well (bit dear though).
Cheap vodka is appalling stuff.

Polish vodka FTW.
I find with mixers cheap white rum is nicer than expensive stuff as it kicks through more.

Re: The Christmas booze thread
I don't like white rum, it has a sickly overtone that disgusts me.

It turns out it's Kronenbourg which appears not to be the same thing. The Call of the Wendigo wrote:I've got ten cans of Heineken.

It depends on whether it's that basic Heineken (3% vol?) or whether it's the stronger (5%-or-so 'export' stuff).
That latter would probably taste not dissimilar to Kronenbourg (1664), the former would be noticeably more wishy-washy.
Rather than seriously Widow Twanky.

I forget to mention, BTW, that when I went to pay for my booze at the O2 Finchley branch yesterday I queried the girl who was the self-service troubleshooter as to why the tequila I was buying said £34 when I scanned it when it said £29 on the shelf and she blankly pointed out that that was probably a Nectar Card price.
It applied to the Cointreau as well.
I just shrugged my shoulders and fatalistically accepted it, but then a woman right next to me chipped in and said she'd scan her Nectar Card for my purchase to which I agreed.
Ultimately, she got the Nectar points and saved me £9.00.
Happy blinking Christmas indeed.
I told her I'd be 'paying it forward'.
And I thought I had with tonight's mini-Christmas playlist...
