To be fair I should say that his stalking was part of him having schizophrenia, so although that doesn't make it right, he didn't really know that he was doing it.

He appears to have been dead for 5 years.

I've been in a Wilko/Wilkinson a handful of times over the years but I've never really been sure what its purpose was. It wasn't particularly cheap, yet seemed a bit cheapo/downmarket, it didn't seem to sell "everything", it never really had a reputation - either good or bad - I never heard anyone ever talk about it.

It does seem newer places like Poundland and B&M have come along and blasted Wilko out of the way. They've appeared in high streets and out of town retail parks, the latter of which I don't think Wilko ever did.

It found its true prominence after Woolworths closed down, I think that's where the idea that it sold everything came from, it expanded into product lines that WW used to sell.

I don't think those two should be bracketed together. A lot of the stuff in Poundland is just crap which falls apart when you use it, but I've discovered that B&M sell quality goods (just that some of those goods have Arabic or Polish labels). Out of those two only B&M is a realistic Wilkinsons replacement.

Yes I think this is highly relevant. In Glasgow the Wilkos were almost all in town centre areas and hard to get to, which is how I came to find myself in a B&M. The only exception is/was the one at the Clyde shopping centre, where I used to go for cardboard boxes for my storage units.

I’ve never been in one. Nor in Poundland for that matter.

I quite like the odd look around B&M, but there’s a lot of tat - mirrored rose gold toothbrush holders and the like. And I was disgusted to see dog food next to cans of meat intended for humans - not that I’d be buying either, but I noticed, and it struck me as an unattractive display choice. It reminded me of the time I walked past a butcher to see a sign in the window saying ‘dog meat sold here’.

I am always highly suspicious of this joint establishment
