| Or indeed the only album you need by them.

| The Jam - no such thing as a good album by them or with even any of their songs on. Blodnie - not quite true. D. Bovvie - absolutely, categorically, unquestionably not! However... _________________ Have you ever seen a Squonk's tears?

| I disagree. I think Queen II is their best album.

| With the possible exception of Ultra, all Depeche Mode LPs gave too many filler tracks. So their Greatest Hits 1&2 has to be their best release. The real one, not the imposter GH. From wiki: Greatest Hits is a greatest hits album by English electronic music band Depeche Mode, released in 1987 by Amiga. It was released exclusively in East Germany on LP and cassette |

| Depeche Mode The Singles 81->85 and The Singles 86->98 contain everything you need by DM. _________________ ' "Haven't got houses." Where do they live then?'

86->98 was my first Depeche Mode purchase. I've since acquired the earlier one with the same front cover as the one flibby posted above. |

| Madonna - The Immaculate Collection I like Madonna but I don't think her earlier studio albums are thrilling, other than the singles. Also, having bought The Immaculate Collection before her older studio albums, the lightly remixed versions of the singles on The Immaculate Collection make the studio album versions seem weaker - other than the remixed dance version of Like a Prayer, which is nowhere near as good as the proper single version we all know. Another negative of The Immaculate Collection is that is doesn't contain all of the hits - big hits such as True Blue and Who's That Girl are missing, for example. |

| I always remember "True Blue" not being on that. I reckon it was left off for being a kind of '50s style pastiche and a bit naff, despite the fact it was a big hit. Talk about airbrushing your own history. That was when I lost all respect for Madonna. _________________ Have you ever seen a Squonk's tears?

| Yes, I think that's the reason it got left off. Even a light remix couldn't justify my love its inclusion. Actually, I've just remembered that True Blue was included on an EP called The Holiday Collection, released around the same time as The Immaculate Collection and with a similar cover, also including the song Holiday (included on TIC of course) and the largely forgotten Causing a Commotion (not included on the album). I think it was basically a greatest hits overspill EP. Incidentally, a few years ago I bought this from a charity shop for 20p - turns out it sells for between £10-20 on eBay. EDIT: After a bit of research, more like just under £10 actually. |

| This could be trimmed down to a good single LP... _________________ Have you ever seen a Squonk's tears?

| Oh yes, but that's an inferior compilation, as opposed to the now legendary Gold. |

| Hmm, is this the track listing? Yes, much a much better, more concise selection. Could still do with a bit of trimming though. _________________ Have you ever seen a Squonk's tears?

Could still do with a bit of trimming though. Yes, that's the more "classic" (in the CD era) compilation, from 1992, and one of the best selling albums of all time in the UK. The first one you posted is from 2001, and is barely known, only reaching number 17 in the charts and has sold just 60,000 copies, as opposed to Gold's 5.5 million. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Definitive_Collection_(ABBA_album) |
