There were huge amounts of thunder and lightning, around 3 o'clock, this morning.

But the thunder sounded weird. It sounded like thunder does in stage productions, rather than real thunder.

I was going to suggest that you could have been dreaming.

But I see that it was indeed raining between 3 and 4am at the nearest weather station to you.

Thunderstorms was trending on Twitter in the early hours of this morning and I saw all the lightnings heading towards Sheffield. Just looking at the 24hr lightning strike count map, there had been a whole line of lightnings stretching from the continent, all across the Midlands and South Yorkshire, before finishing just south of Leeds.
