The world wasn't ready for On The Hour 1981-87.
Though you can imagine Mike Channel as interviewer saying something like 'Was it a factor in the damage caused by the earthquake that the foundations of the city were made of crisps?'
Except there would be an audible, world-weary exasperation with the f**kwittedness of the situation. Chris Morris wouldn't take that comedy route, and he couldn't do it if he wanted to anyway.

Dare I say it, I also prefer Not The Nine O'Clock News to Radio Active. And the Burkiss Way
Actually, On The Hour was mindblowing at the time. A genuine New Type of comedy, at the time. You don't get many of those.

I've been listening to Radio 6 on my new modern television. It's quite good, they haven't played anything I didn't like so far.
Re: What's that on your radio?
I was just listening to Absolute 80s and when I put it on "Obsession" by Animotion was playing. It then stopped and went back to the beginning and started playing again. That was until just after the first chorus it once again stopped and went back to the beginning. This happened three or four times - each time stopping in exactly the same place - before I switched it off!

They're releasing The League Of Gentlemen's radio show on vinyls
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07GZPLR9P?ref=em_1p_0_ti&ref_=pe_1965711_326750721
Meh, but does this mean the 1981 production of the Lord of the Rings is far off?

Re: What's that on your radio?
It would be an awkward fit, cos it comes in either 30 or 60 minute eps, and LPs do best at 22-25 minutes per side if I recall.
To make things that little bit more interesting, the re-editing from 30 to 60 minutes lost some bits of the original recording - apparently for ever - so god knows what would happen if they chopped it up again into 23 minute chunks.

Re: What's that on your radio?
Hawh, you can put 28/30 minutes on one side*, no probs if you're not after deep bass mon.
OOh, which means we can have the 26 episode original format too.
Who am I trying to kid, the Evil Peter Jackson estate will block anything
*56 minutes on a 58 year old LP:

Re: What's that on your radio?
The Simon Mayo/Jo Whiley thing just never seemed right and appeared rather forced. I think Jo Whiley has always been far better suited as a DJ to the "real" music scene than an entertainer, like a more modern day Janice Long/Bob Harris etc, and I think returning her to a later night music show seems right.
A few weeks ago, when announcing what was on Radio 2 throughout the day, Ken Bruce had to correct himself when he called them "Simon and J... erm, Jo and Simon" - leading me to think there has been some sort of ploy by the powers that be to make sure that "Jo" must always get first mention without fail - despite the fact that "Simon and Jo" rolls off the tongue better. And the fact that it was "Simon's" show in the first place. I just think the BBC kind of messed up a bit here for one alleged reason or another.
That's my conspiracy theory for the day.
And this all said, I actually prefer Jo Whiley to Simon Mayo these days who is a bit long in the tooth, but it has still resulted in Radio 2 losing one of their long-time DJs.
Anything's better than Chris Evans though.

So what you're saying is, it's political correctness gone mad?

Re: What's that on your radio?
After recent reports of Radio 2 losing listeners, are they trying to force even more people to stop listening?

Re: What's that on your radio?
When I started listening to Radio 2 circa 1999, it was full of dull-but-safe DJs like Terry Wogan, Sarah Kennedy and ex Radio 1 DJs like Janice Long.
Now it's only Ken Bruce of the old skool left.
