Channel 4 +1. First Dates - a rather beautiful young man, sadly heavily tattooed, but I'd be willing to overlook that in his case. The second couple are Britain's only female sumo wrestler and an onboard train manager.

Just sat through Made in Chelsea. Normally I can't stand their twanging millennial voices but I found myself engrossed by this gorgeous creature...

I knew she wasn't his type - I'm surprised he was honest about it, but still he remained polite. Put her in a cab by herself. It's never a good idea to discuss the ins and outs of your vanity and avid soap opera viewing on dates. Entirely her own fault that she didn't have bits of him in various doorways and alleyways on the way to the nearest hotel. That would've been my aim.

Men like to talk about themselves in my experience. I'd have thrown him off guard at once by remarking that I generally dislike tattoos (placing myself potentially out of reach), and asking about motivation (a chance to show him how fascinating you find him), pain threshold (an open invitation for him to boast), and where else he had them (leading on to where to go when the bill arrives). She did that all wrong. Painful to witness.

The onboard train manager is quite sweet.

First Dates update. Tom, of above description, is a tree surgeon from Evesham. I have a second cousin who lives near Malvern, and we get on very well. If I was single I'd be on that phone to arrange a house sitting week at the first available opportunity, and I'm sure I'd be able to find some work for Tom to start off with in the garden. I hope anyone reading in the Worcestershire area finds a use for Toms services.
