Re: The Nightjar love-in thread
My beloved iMac went up the spout on Friday morning after I tried to install a Catalina update.
The computer restarted as normal and started to boot up - Apple logo, progress bar (slowing to a crawl) finally completing and then nothing.
A frozen screen with no audible processors whirring away.
It’s a personal tragedy.
Crazy that I can’t take it anywhere to be looked at.
No idea either when I’ll be able to either.
That’s a nearly £2000 machine just over 6 years old.

What if you hold down the alt key when you turn it on? Is there a recovery drive?

Re: The Nightjar love-in thread
The gamut of rubbish I’ve had to listen to over the weekend is a tragedy in its own right.

Oh, you're alive. Everyone will be pleased. Myself, I hadn't noticed your absence until it was pointed out. I was considering asking nurses in at least three different hospitals to shout 'Nightjar' across the intensive care beds.

I thought he was dead.
I wrote a lovely obituary.
Now I'm going to have to save it for someone else.

Re: The Nightjar love-in thread
They both died in 1966 and were replaced by doubles. Everyone knows that.

Re: The Nightjar love-in thread
I faked my death in 1980. No one knows I'm still alive.

Didn't we have a thread on the old forum where I posited the theory that one of us might be an android like Ash in Alien?

Re: The Nightjar love-in thread
My double died in 1966 just when she was due to take over. So I've had to pretend I'm her these last 54 years

Too long in the face.
Wide of jaw.
Head tapering towards the hairline.
Overly bred and too often from a narrow genetic pool.
Also, she has the ingrained look of petulance that comes with great privilege.
Not for me.
