I was slightly nonplussed by that opening track.

It was like being suddenly accosted by someone quite attractive, very clever but a bit scary in a pub when you're on the way to the bog.

It has a very serpentine melody.

The spirit of Joni Mitchell circa-1968 hangs over this.

I'm temped to say it's a bit busy, but I'm fine with this.

I've no idea what she's on about but then I often don't.

I'd say it's like a cross between Joni Mitchell and Sandy Denny.

Still has the knack for surprising chord changes.

Don't like this one as much as the other two.

I think this is her best vocal performance on the album, so far.

It could be Sandy Denny I'm thinking of.

The lyrics are very developed. It has to be the wordiest stuff I've ever heard by her.

Guitar solo.

Her first guitar solo of the album. I'd recognise that style anywhere.

I'm not familiar with MM really, but this record has the scarred hallmarks of an older, more mordantly wise and uncompromising artist.

This is definitely the same band she had on Life is Sweet.

Is this about Jesus?

I like this so far.
