He's better at this kind of stuff.
When it gets a bit more perky and the chords are gently pleasing.

Who was that other guy? James Gray?
David Gray.
The Sniff 'n' the Tears album sounded like David Gray, in places.

Mostly inspired by the power-pop of Big Star and that Cholmondly-Warner bloke.

Re: A.C. Newman - Shut Down the Streets (2012)
Newman cited the Gerry Rafferty song "Baker Street" as inspiration for the album.

Oh, I was just about to say that.
Everyone in the Nu-P*rnos has a tendency to go off into track-filling 'la la la/na na nas'.
It's bit like a disease that's infected the lot of them.

The last track.
A really wonderful song.
Again, about his younger sister who died of cancer.
These are his best songs.![sad yes](/users/3715/63/33/29/smiles/2158945485.gif)

Re: A.C. Newman - Shut Down the Streets (2012)
I really think he captures the all-consuming nature of personal tragedy with these lyrics.
They should have shut down all the streets
Presidents and kings should have been there
With not a single empty seat
All the schools closed and the roads we drove down all lined
Lined with people cap in hand and crying
That went on for miles and miles and miles and miles
They should have shut down all the streets
All the papers plastered with tributes
We should have asked for privacy
Though we understand it that some want to share their pain
We would ask to grieve this in our quiet way
And they should have asked again and again and again
They should have shut down all the streets
All the bouquets piled on the doorstep
And pages filled with crayon hearts that a second grade class had made
In their school that day
Because the teacher had to give in some small way
And there weren't that many ways left for her to say it
They should have shut down the streets
