But first, the owners of the company should be made to sort through the wreckage by hand. Bricks over here, pieces of wood over there, and so on, for as long as it takes to clear everything. Then they can start with brooms for the dust. While the company pays the costs of monitoring and checking this.

Weeks, months, years, who can say - it’s up to them how fast they work as their cash ticks away.

Only then should architects and engineers and professional builders and historians and interior designers move in, all at cost to the company. And that might be a valuable lesson to all the greedy b*stard rentiers who burn down, tear down, and generally vandalise the environment we all have to live in.

Looking at the finer details, I h8 to say it, but I have a feeling that a potential reconstruction of the Crooked House is going to be considerably more difficult than that of the Carlton Tavern. sad yes

I'm a bit too squiffy to be bothered to post my reasons why right this moment, but I will endeavour to endeavour tomorrow.

All Thursday endeavourings considered.

People are taking bricks as a memento - there won't be any bricks left to even consider rebuilding it with at this rate!

Well it’s just easier to build something straight. Building a deliberately crooked building that subsides and settles over three centuries, with those twisted windows and doors, is going to be a nightmare of a task.

They should probably be subjected to Georgian justice. Whipped through the town and on to debtors prison, then a penal colony.

I’ve changed my mind. I don’t see how it can be rebuilt, and even if it could be, it’s not a placing one brick back on top of the other like the case of the Carlton Tavern. It should be left as it is, while those responsible are bankrupted and jailed. And if the locals want to use it as a way to get free bricks for their patios, that’s unfortunate but it’s up to them.

When male actors wear merkins and prosthetic c**ks, are the testicles their own?

Twice now, this has been in the news concerning actors of particular note.

What a Face

The owners of a Black Country pub which was gutted by fire and then demolished two days later experienced another huge fire on land they owned [exactly five years and one day earlier].

The Crooked House, near Dudley, had recently been sold to its new owners.

The cause of a previous blaze at Finmere landfill, Buckinghamshire, in August 2018 was never established.

Adam Taylor is director of AT Contracting and Plant Hire Ltd, which, according to Land Registry documents, owns the Finmere site.

His wife, Carly, controls the company ATE Farms Limited, which bought the "wonky" Black Country landmark in July.

Mrs Taylor also currently controls AT Contracting and Plant Hire Ltd, which the BBC understands rented a digger a week before flames engulfed The Crooked House on 5 August.

I've been past the entrance to the Crooked House today. Excited

You can't see anything as the building is/was about half a mile down the dead-end lane off the main road I was on, though the "welcome" signs are there and it all looked normal other than a bunch of flowers attached to one of the signs.

This will end well.

Anne Frank nursery in Germany planning to rename itself in diversity and inclusion push

A kindergarten in Germany named after Anne Frank wants to rename itself something more inclusive.

-----

The new proposed name is 'World Explorers', What a Face although no final decision has been made yet on whether the name will change at all.

Aren't European "world explorers" considered somewhat toxic these days? At this point it's probably best that the school just doesn't have a name.

[Northern]Supermarket chain Booths is axing almost all self-service tills in its stores in what it says is a response to customer demand.

The firm, which has 16 stores in Lancashire as well as outlets in Yorkshire and Cheshire, said the policy was driven by customer feedback.

Booths is believed to be the first UK supermarket to move away from using self-service tills, which have become increasingly common in recent years.

"We believe colleagues serving customers delivers a better customer experience and therefore we have taken the decision to remove self-checkouts in the majority of our stores," the company said.

Speaking to BBC Radio Lancashire, Booths managing director Nigel Murray, said: "Our customers have told us this over time, that the self-scan machines that we've got in our stores they can be slow, they can be unreliable, they're obviously impersonal.

More of this please. I hate self-service checkouts. They're okay for one or two items but make me anxious when it's more than that, telling you off for doing the wrong thing or locks up, has a red flashing light and calls a member of staff over like you've done something naughty. So frustrating.
