Chris De Burgh.
Who's choosing these ones?
In fact this is hard work, too many clips.

I hope so. Looking forward to the 1990s was the only thing that kept me going through the 1980s,

Huge changes to Top of the Pops from around September 1991!
It carries on pretty much as normal until then though.

Is that when they had a producer who apparently hated pop music running it? Or was that later? 'Lets have real bands playing real music, really'

I think it was Ric Blaxill(?). The bands were made to play live, including the dance acts and their sampled vocals - all done live, with some rather unique results.

"Sadly, the new format proved somewhat unsuccessful. The features were generally extremely dull – it was hard to see how the mass audience were going to be left spellbound by watching Lostprophets wandering around an airport"

Still no sign of Top of the Pops 1990, but:

How, at the start of the 1990s, Top of the Pops learned to embrace the new sounds of hip hop, dance and the indie underground. With contributions from Adamski, Seal and Betty Boo.
