Star or Clown?
Re: Jobriath - Jobriath (1973)
A bit Elton, a bit Bovvie, a bit Mott.
Unreconstructed '50s/'60s R&R basically.

A Little Richard goes a long long way...
Nuff said.

I used to have this on shuffle on my iPod and it didn't work out of context of the rest of the album.

Nice little whine of Mellotron at the very end there.
Really ace album too.

Re: Jobriath - Jobriath (1973)
It is over.
In places, it was interesting because it sounded like Bowie. In places, it was interesting because it sounded like Elton John. But the Bowie bits were never as good as Bowie and the Elton John bits were never as good as Elton John. Overall, it had the feeling of an album that was perpetually disappearing through the cracks.
Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it.

A very engaging and enjoyable album throughout.
Broad comparisons to D. Bovvie and all don't quite tell the whole story.
A lot of the apparent Elton, D. Bovvie, Lou Reed etc-type stuff preceded or was contemporaneous to what those artists were doing or did.
In truth it runs alongside and even ahead in certain cases.
All the work by those artistes that bear comparison to the stuff on this album are from '73-'77.
GYBR, DD, SCD for example.
