Re: Simple Minds - Life in a Day (1979)
This came out 6 months before Transmission,
And 3 months before An Ideal for Living
Are Joy Division just a bunch of Simple Minds clones with a better producer?

My assertion is that this sounds overall most like Sparks.
This may be purely an accident however (considering how many different recording artists it all sounds like).

Re: Simple Minds - Life in a Day (1979)
It is over.
They clearly had a talent for mimicking the work of others and it was a lot more tolerable than later stuff that I've heard by them but, mostly, it just made me want to listen to the people they were pastiching.
Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it.

Yes, yes.
Why not.
I feel that no other record we've ever commentated on has sounded like so many other artistes all at once.

I found that all quite bewildering.
I'm going to go back and make a list of all the bands and singers we all thought it sounded like.
This I feel will help us understand what the h*ck it was all about.

★★ BTW.
I would've given it ★★★, but there's no way it deserves any more than a combined ★★★.
That score in itself is absurd, but I'd be a churlius maximus to give it ★.
