I am genuinely quite bereft.
She was a brilliant writer - by turns, powerful, profound and scholarly and acerbic, biting and mischievous - a major cultural figure and an important voice and presence intrinsic to the social fabric and intellectual wellbeing of this nation.
An authentic latter day great.
There never was another like her before and there won't be another again.

Hilary Mantel was quite the colossus.
A major cultural figure and an important social voice.
Physically, a tiny woman, wracked by decades of poorly/wrongly diagnosed chronic illness she was instead an intellectual heavyweight in the making all along (from childhood) who persevered and persevered and again and again.
Her novels are all of the novels and genres.
