Off to CMH shortly for a meeting with the palliative care team to thrash out what will be realistically possible.
We'll still be aiming to get him home, but you never can tell...

Re: What's happening in your life?
My Grandpa died this afternoon at about 4pm.
The end was, it seems, mercifully swift albeit shockingly sudden considering the good spirits he was in yesterday after he realised he could go home.
I was called at 3:15pm today (by a very dear nurse who'd cared for him much of the last week) and told that he'd deteriorated dramatically during the course of the day.
I arrived at just before 4pm and when I asked him clearly and loudly whether he could hear me he seemed to mouth something and expelled accompanying breaths.
I then went to talk to the medical staff and a (fairly inadequate) doctor was subsequently called for.
In the interim period I could get no response from him whatsoever.
The doctor then came and conducted a number of basic vital-sign tests and declared there and then that he'd 'passed'.
I think that I was present the moment he died.
My feeling is that, in the knowledge that he could go home at last and on hearing the voice of someone he loved and trusted, he simply relinquished the rope and drifted away...

I'm very sorry to hear that but I'm glad that you were there for him at the point of departure.

I know I can't say anything worthwhile over an internet forum but my thoughts are with you.

I'm really sorry to read that. Best wishes to you, and your family, and to him. Be good to yourself.

And they had a Op-art exhibition in the local art galley, or as I like to call it Bridget Riley and some also rans.![sad yes](/users/3715/63/33/29/smiles/2158945485.gif)
Can't wait till I get my snaps back from Boots.

Nightjar you are very lucky to still have had grandparents. I'd guess most people have lost all of theirs by their 30s or 40s; I lost my first grandparent at 15 and my last at 34. I remember someone I knew at school lost two of their grandparents in one go - in a car accident. To have shared your life with a grandparent for 50+ years is very good going. ![yes](/users/3715/63/33/29/smiles/959869116.gif)

Re: What's happening in your life?
No doubt. You'll probably feel like sh*t for quite some time. The only thing to do with great grief is to feel it, entirely, and go wherever it takes you.
As you say, it was mercifully swift, which is all anybody can ask for.

Where was that? And how did you manage to capture it from the sea rather than the dockside? Seems rather remiss of them not to have blasted your rowing boat into non existence - you could've been anybody.

Re: What's happening in your life?
I've finally saved up enough money to order the body and neck of my next, my last, guitar I'm building.
It's shell pink in satin finish.![bounce](/users/3715/63/33/29/smiles/630770629.gif)
