Helen Terry - Blue Notes (1986)

I don't like the album cover.
They've done it hide the fact that she's"short, she's round, she bounces on the ground - Sammy Lee, Sammy Lee!" a little Rubenesque.
It's the way the photographer's got her to hold the scarf around her chin.
Y'know, like that period when Boy George painted his goitre neck black.

Re: Helen Terry - Blue Notes (1986)
Well, I've been waiting to hear this for literally decades and though it would very much slot into my music collection nicely it was nowhere near as thrilling as I was expecting. I love her epic, raucous background vocals on certain Culture Club songs but that barely came across here other than a couple of times. And at other times her vocals were a rather flat and the production rather mediocre - though to my ears acceptable enough, I know to others would be horrid.
It's a difficult one for me as I sort of enjoyed it but expected better. I still need it on CD, but I can wait a bit longer to find it at a budget price!

Anyway, it was all-round a poor album.
Her voice was, at times, badly exposed and that John Cale cover was a catastrophically misjudged venture.
In truth, I kind of felt bad for her.
Ultimately, there were a dozen or so other more prominent artistes doing the same sort of thing in the mid '80s (some new, some elderly) and they were more charismatic and technically gifted.

★★ I think I've said everything I need to.

Yeah, that joke about the all night garage...
That encapsulated everything.

I could hardly have done better myself.
Apart from perhaps including the running time.
