With a the swift removal of some of the harmonies, maybe played by a group with b*lls, this would be alright.

Van Dyke Parks is strong in this one.

It just sounded like a bog-standard Beach Boys album, to me.

Now to look back at the thread and see what everybody else made of it.

I don't like the Beach Boys. I like the Charlie Manson one, they should have done more of his songs.

Well, as is the case with all of these 'Brian retreats to his sandpit' albums - where the band lost their de facto leader but were left with loads of songs that were supposed to be on SMILE and the burgeoning songwriting talent of Dennis Wilson - AND Mike Love's overweening desires to make the band more like they were in 1963 (when he was the lead singer and all the songs were about surfing or cars) AND Al Jardine just wanting to do cheerful 'downhome' covers and Bruce Johnston just hanging around like a fart in a space-suit...
