I'm not sure I'd call owning a Morris Traveller pretentious; there are somewhat flashier cars out there. I can remember them still being around in the 80s.

Hmmm. Faux modesty from multimillionaire celebrities isn't a trait I rate. VW camper vans and hearses are in the same category I think. I had to complain to my bank about a hearse parked outside that was advertising 'Flame Grilled Steak'. They had it towed.

Coincidentally, this evening when I got home I was frustrated with Newsnight so I turned to an old article about Dusty Springfield. I think it's my all time favourite story about a star - driving through Mayfair at midnight, stoned and wearing dark sunglasses she hit a pedestrian and was obviously charged. She tried to counter sue on the grounds that this woman had dented the bodywork of her favourite car.
