| Not long after passing my driving test I drove to Northampton as I wanted to go somewhere I'd never been before, and somewhere no one else would ever want to go with me, so I just got in the car and drove to Northampton.  |

| I always think of Northampton as being in the south as it's "on the way to London" from my area, but map-wise it's actually quite Midlandsy. I think I've even detected mild Midlands accents on people from Northampton. |

| When I lived in Essex Northampton was the first place that, when I travelled north, felt like I'd got to a different part of the country.
They say, do they not, 'In America you drive 100 miles and you're still in the same state. In Britain you drive 100 miles and the people have a different accent and a different name for bread rolls.'
