Whenever Israel is in the mix even tangentially, and people from the United States start becoming involved, you’re in for a parade of the most abject ignorance you’ve witnessed since the last time they piped up, even if the person is a ****. Individually they couldn’t be nicer, but hearing/seeing groups of Americans discussing anything is like reading The Sun circa 1984. They don’t talk, they explain how it is. If any European ever wondered how the colonised peoples felt, the Americans provide us with a regular lesson - everything from singing contests to defence by way of dentistry, they’ve got the answers, and you’re going to listen, even while they sit in their own sh*t.

I may boycott this year's event.

I’ve only realised in the last few days that there are heats and semi finals and all sorts going on, for months. I thought it was just each country putting forward a song, sung on the night, voted, done.

I think it's been going on for around a decade, due to there being so many countries involved, these days.
