The singer Mabel, who I've always thought had a rather old fashioned name for a current young singer, is the daughter of Neneh Cherry. Did we know that or was it just me?

I didn't know. In fact I've never heard of Mabel Cherry, if I had, I'd certainly remember her, with an old-lady name like that. She sounds like the jolly woman who ran the village post office for years and is now retired and sits in her garden waving cheerily at passers-by.

I've heard of Mabel and I've already mentioned her on the Friend of Dorothy thread.
Didn't know she was the daughter of Neneh Cherry
She's bland as ditchwater.

Every time you saw Neneh Cherry on TV, she seemed to be pregnant. Does this mean Mabel was on TOTP before she was even born?

I believe her surname is actually McVey - her father being longtime Neneh Cherry collaborator Cameron McVey. I've only heard or read her name, I've never heard anything by her.

She was born in 1996, just before Neneh's "comeback", but after Love Can Build a Bridge.

I think she's pregnant on the current repeats of Top of the Pops. I think that's the child that went on to make Neneh a grandmother.

Today I've learnt a new cloud name, and that happens very rarely, about once every 15 years in my experience. It is cumulonimbus flammagenitus, aka the terrifying pyrocumulonimbus.

Ricard Corey, the Paul Simon song, was based at 19century poem of the same name by Edwin Arlington Robinson.
Richard Cory Whenever Richard Cory went down town, We people on the pavement looked at him: He was a gentleman from sole to crown, Clean favored, and imperially slim.
And he was always quietly arrayed, And he was always human when he talked; But still he fluttered pulses when he said, "Good-morning," and he glittered when he walked.
And he was rich – yes, richer than a king – And admirably schooled in every grace: In fine, we thought that he was everything To make us wish that we were in his place.
So on we worked, and waited for the light, And went without the meat, and cursed the bread; And Richard Cory, one calm summer night, Went home and put a bullet through his head.
