Track 8 - Dear Friend.
Another song about Lennon.

This is clearly the best song on the album.
And seems to be the basis for every track on Supertramp's Crime of the Century album.

Didn't like side 2 as much as side 1.
Let's see if the last track can pull it back?

I wonder if he's the only member of Wings on this track? It does sound very much like a solo track - and totally different from the rest of the album.

The strings on this are chilling. I wonder who did them?

The strings on this are so Crime of the Century it's uncanny.

And the sax is so Crime of the Century too. There's no way they didn't listen to it while they were making that.

And now it is over.
Why couldn't the whole album be as committed as the last track on each side?

My thoughts are that I like the first side which has an amiability that overcomes its lack of ambition and closes with an excellent track, but Side Two feels a bit lifeless until the final track which has a potency possibly unique in the whole of the Wings catalogue.

Now to look back at the thread and see what everyone else made of it.

So, of the Wings albums we've covered on this thread, my ranking is:
Venus and Mars.
Back to the Egg.
Wings at the Speed of Sound.
Wildlife.

I've never heard Red Rose Speedway, Bland on the Run or That There London Town.

That said, I do think Wings and McCartney 1 and 2 are underrated. Even his 80s record although not good wasn't as bad its reputation.
"Wings? Only the Group the Beatles could have been"
I can't remember what Ram sounds like now.
