I recognise the one on the left, you see her on a number of political programmes on TV. But I don't recognise the one on the right. She reminds me of Bernard Bresslaw.

Yes. It's the eyes and eyebrows.

Apparently for the Guardian improving the jurno's pics means making them lighter skinned, narrowed nosed and thinner lipped.

I wonder if it's necessary to ascribe to 'improvement' what could be more easily explained by the difference between a carefully selected video still and a studio headshot?
