Albums we should never do Empty Re: Albums we should never do

Despite the fact that it's one of the best albums released in the last 30+ years I would dread for us to tackle Joanna Newsom's epic 2010 album "Have One on Me".

Released as a triple CD it clocks in at 125 minutes.

It has 18 tracks.

125 ÷ 18 = 6.9444 recurring.

So each song has an average running time of effectively 7 minutes.

It's real masterpiece however and I'd recommend it to anyone, but, with it's virtuoso musical brilliance, complex, sprawling song-structures and surfeit of profound and enigmatic lyrics I fear that it'd be just too much hard work for the attention-span-of-a-housefly, foppish flibbertigibbets amongst you. aristojar

Surely it means that, on average, each track is infinitely long? scared

Yeah, it's 106 minutes long.

However, I've never really enjoyed it, so you lot will probably like it. Colbert

The album they did after that "The W" is really good.

It'd probably be best received here.

Anyway, outside of those two albums, it's all about the solo stuff.

Especially Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, GZA and the ODB.

Inspectah Deck's work recent work as a member Czarface with Boston group Esoteric and 7L (and Ghostface, MF Doom, Demigodz etc) is really great too.

But if the songs are all infinite then one you start playing the album you can never get past the first track.

Come to think of it I'm still listening to "Easy" a decade later... scared

Yes, after last night Whitehouse were the first band I thought of.

Mainly because they're rubbish though.

Trout Mask Replica

120 minutes.

Looking at the track list is like looking at one of those supermarket receipts that seems unexpectedly, slightly alarmingly high because it says £59.15, but all the items you bought were less than a pound.

It's just that they added up and added up and added up... sad yes

I'd prefer Clear Spot.

Or Bat Chain Puller.

Or, Bluejeans and Moonbeams.

The latter album is near-universally panned, but I've always really liked it. shifty

Oh, no, I was looking at it wrongly, it says 1 hour, 19 minutes. doh
