Well liked by critics.

I don't recall liking it quite as much (and indeed Cale really gets on my w*ck after a short time).

Miserable Welsh b*sket, my old flatmate used to call him the Terry Griffiths of music.

Very apt.

Anyway, it's got a great cover and I'm so ambivalent about Cale (he can be brilliant) there's no danger of me becoming overwrought and offended.

I've heard Academy in Peril, not sure if I liked it or not. Or I can't remember if I liked it or not.

The Academy in Peril is nothing like any of his other records.

The Academy in Peril is a seriously/very daft experimental LP, much of it with the LSO performing partly improvised stuff.

John Lydon picked the very silly orchestral one with the camp BBC director impression as part of his eye-opening Capital Radio interview with Tommy Vance in '77.

The rest of his albums are, by comparison, just off-beat, off-kilter rock albums.

Well, that's all I've heard by him. Other than some of the Velvet Underground stuff, and Grasshopper of course.

Well, then we should start with Vintage Violence.
