"3 3/4 ips twin track mono tape record"

Let's try and unpack that - it looks like a record, and the 3 3/4 ips speed is exactly twice the 1 7/8 ips speed of a cassette.I dimly remember my brother borrowing a 4-track tape recorder once which ran at 3 3/4.

Now could Mr Wiggles pls give us a proper explanation.

My old dad had one of those 3 3/4 reel-to-reelers. It's probably still up in the loft.

I remember trying to get it all working some time circa 1985, but failing cos I couldn't find an empty spool.
