| I've found a great way to remove ice build-up without defrosting the freezer. I use a mallet and chisel to chop away the ice, it's very satisfying. Though you have to be careful not to chop through the coolant pipes. _________________ ' "Haven't got houses." Where do they live then?'

| I always heat a knife up on the hob and use it to melt the ice as it carves away at it. _________________ |

| Ooh, that's a good idea, and even more dramatic. _________________ ' "Haven't got houses." Where do they live then?'

| It's now defrosted It was completely full before, now it's only a third full. So two-thirds of its contents must just have been ice. _________________ ' "Haven't got houses." Where do they live then?'

| I found the same the last time I defrosted mine. The amount of extra space that was created amazed me. _________________ |

| I just use a hairdryer to get things started, and then leave the door open. After a couple of hours, the soaking floor can then have cleaning products added directly and be used to thoroughly scrub the floor, units, wood, and appliances without having to use any water not already available.
I found a Fab and half a baguette in my freezer the last time I defrosted. |

That occurred to me after the fact, when I saw that all the floor area downhill of the freezer was sparkling clean from my mop-up efforts. I say downhill because my kitchen has a slope, having been created in the long-ago by someone knocking together a small kitchen, a scullery and an outside toilet. It's got a step halfway along too, which I quickly got used to and just step over automatically, but which never fails to send new visitors a-stumbling and a-tumbling. _________________ ' "Haven't got houses." | I just hack mine out with a knife and fling the pieces on the floor, then scoop it all up with a dustpan and brush and fling it into the sink, then turn the hot water tap on and gain pleasure from watching mountains of ice melt to nothingness before my eyes. _________________ |

| My kitchen has a slight slope too, which goes away from the hallway carpet, due just to age and that's it's flats converted townhouse. Ideal.
It does really work well. Something to give a go next time perhaps.
Hairdryers are friend to more than hair. Many mornings here, one is on the go to finish drying underwear while it's on. Ditto shirts etc - you think it's fine then realise too late that part of some item is still damp. Or give my son a quick blast of heat down the back of his jumper on a cold morning. When I was a child, we used to have to have someone hold one at the door so you didn't freeze to death in the bathroom. |

| Are you doing it the sensible way, by turning the freezing thing off or are you doing it the exciting way by bashing away at the ice, with a sharp implement? _________________ |
