Re: Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention - Over-Nite Sensation (1974)
I don't normally like Robert Christgau, he's the Needledrop of the Ike era, but…
"Oh, I get it--the soft-core porn is there to contextualize the serious stuff. Oh, I get it--the automatic solos are there to undercut the serious stuff. Oh, I get it--the marimbas are there to mock-trivialize the serious stuff. But where's the serious stuff?"
On another album, but it doesn't really matter which one:
"The rest is the usual eccentric clichés, replete with meters and voicings and key changes that are as hard to play as they are easy to forget."

Anyway, I'm on a bit of a Zappa hating mood at the moment, I'd just be boring people rambling on about his sexism, his priggism, his sneering at people who basically ain't Frank Zappa.
It's my problem,
And this album's a bit done to death anyway. I Used to have it on a double CD with Apostrophe and I'm still not sure where one starts and the other begins.

You choose the Zappa album then.
I'm saying one needs to be done.

I'm just thinking, what would Wendy like?
No instrumental albums, no songs about r*pe, Nothing too Long and nothing to self congratulatory. Tricky.
We're only in it for the Money? One Size Fits All, Bongo Fury? This one?

Well, I thought this or Apostrophe (').
They were recorded at the same time so they often get put on a CD together.
Basically, they're the only two albums I think she'd enjoy the most/dislike the least.
Anyway, all this pandering to Ms. Tippytoes is an outrage.

One Size Fits All is pretty bad BTW.
Y'know, IMO.
The best track is the instrumental.

Apostrophe (') is fine too.
It's even shorter.
I reckon Wendi would like it better (although I don't like think it's as good).
