| He sits inside the side doorway of the sad, abandoned once-thriving Co-op department store - I cunningly avoided him by hugging the wall of said store and then making a sudden break across the street for the safety of Holland & Barrett (satellite store). _________________ ' "Haven't got houses." | Not really local, but... - Quote :
- Elephant topiary at centre of drug dealing row destroyed in car crash
Topiary elephants at the centre of a row over whether they should be chopped down have been badly damaged in a car crash.
The four elephants in Romilly Road, Finsbury Park, have become a local tourist attraction but have also been blamed for masking drug dealing in the street — leading to a neighbour calling for them to be destroyed.
Last night a car ploughed through the garden wall, hitting two of the elephants.
Police are not treating the crash as suspicious and the wrecked vehicle has now been removed.
Architect Tim Bushe, who first shaped the hedges seven years ago, said: “I can’t believe this has happened after everything else. You really couldn’t make it up.”
Although the hedge elephants have been a hit on Instagram one neighbour has demanded they be removed because of the risk to his family from criminals. He was only foiled in his attempt to destroy them after neighbours intervened. He declined to speak to the Standard.
In July last year police raided the downstairs flat of the house where they found a drugs den with “smoke crack worship satan” scrawled on a wall, above.
A closure order was secured for the flat managed by Partners for Improvement in Islington (PFI).
Mr Bushe, 64, told the Islington Gazette: “If you had someone occupying and looking after the flat downstairs it wouldn’t be happening.
"PFI needs to get someone in and make sure it’s not a crack dealer.” https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/elephant-topiary-at-centre-of-drug-dealing-row-destroyed-in-car-crash-a4212166.html Before... After... _________________ Have you ever seen a Squonk's tears?

| No, the Tiroler Hut. Anyway, it happened week or two ago. Burnt up rather than down I guess. I don't know how badly damaged Sadaf was. _________________ Have you ever seen a Squonk's tears?

I don't know how badly damaged Sadaf was. It was a very witty play on word pronunciation. I was saying sod off in an American accent, with regard to Sadaf. As in 'no, get away'. Actually I did see something about that. Did I ever tell you about my appointment across the road with a very rude woman at the DSS? when I was getting divorced? Not only was I told I was in the wrong building and needed to go to St John's Wood to get something stamped (Orchard Street?) but that my application for housing was being dealt with at a third location (must've been Victoria considering the council). But should instead have been filed with RBKC. Whose estimated waiting time was 12 years and 8 months. So, the appointment was really to tell me that they couldn't do anything but wanted to check in and say hello to me. We discussed what jobs I might be suitable for, and whether I would like to apply to attend adult literacy lessons. I said 'something like yours would do because you seem to be getting paid for naff all'. That's not necessary she said, im trying to help but I'm going to call security. Obviously I told her to go and **** herself, and found myself a lucrative gig in Soho.

| Billionaire art dealers son bashed partners head against wall.

I have been hoping the Nahmad's will donate their fabulous collection to the nation. I believe they offered, with a preference for their eponymous museum to be built on the site of the old Middlesex Hospital. The council turned them down in favour of yet more unaffordable properties. What sort of ingrates would do such a thing? Many places would bite their arms off.
This was very upsetting last month. Such a lovely looking and humble guy...
