I was reading about this yesterday. How come we never hear about the 1944 "Freckleton air disaster"? I was completely unaware of it unlike perhaps most other major disasters within living memory in the UK which still crop up in the national news from time to time.
A Lancashire-based US Air Force plane lost control during a huge thunderstorm and crash landed on the village of Freckleton in between Blackpool and Preston, exploded and destroyed part of a primary school and a village cafe full of people, killing 61 people including schoolchildren.
